Hi! We are Duwan and Greg. We are nomads.
We used to live in a house in Cabbagetown, an old mill village in the shadow of the city of Atlanta’s skyline. Then in 2011 we sold everything, quit our jobs, rented our house (and eventually sold it), bought a sailboat, and set sail on a traveling adventure and a story that has been writing itself as we go along.
We spent three Winters and Springs sailing in the Bahamas, traveling from the very northern Abacos islands to the southern Jumentos just some 60 miles off the coast of Cuba. We spent one winter in Florida diligently working on our boat, Blue Wing, to get her ready for a big adventure sailing to Mexico, Belize, and Honduras. And spent our last winter afloat attempting to live that big adventure sailing to the southern part of North America. Instead got stuck in Key West and then broke the boat trying to cross the Gulf Stream to Isla Mujeres, Mexico. We sold Blue Wing in 2018. But by then, we were already on to another adventure method.
In 2015, we bought a VW Westfalia named Great A’Tuin, but that ended in disaster too. We then switched up to a Ford Transit Van (in 2016) named Ballena Blanca (white whale), which we converted into a camper.
For 8 summers in between adventures (2012-2019), we returned to Cabbagetown and traveled in small circles, house sitting while doing odd jobs and painting houses to make money to do the travel thing all over again. By 2020, we had enough in the adventure kitty that we didn’t return to Cabbagetown and started traveling full-time in Ballena Blanca.
We joined Trusted House Sitters in 2021 and have expanded our opportunities to house sit for travel, breaks from the road, and time with furry companions.
With Ballena Blanca we ventured as far north as the start of the Pan-American highway in Alaska and as far south as Oaxaca, Mexico.
In 2024, we sold Ballena Blanca, our beloved home and van, and bought a few backpacks to travel with in South America. After a year of taking buses, combis, taxis, tuk-tuk through Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Paraguay we returned to the US at the end of May 2025.
Currently we are building out a new van to do the land travel thing again. Her name is Periplo (“wanderings” in Spanish).
